print WebWhistler Features List

Full list of the features of the content administration system of WebWhistler together with a brief introduction.

WYSIWYG Editor

Upon modifying the content of homepages, the administrators can choose between two options: WYSIWYG-environment and an environment of HTML source code adjustment.

In the WYSIWYG environment the administrator can see the results of his work immediately, as well as in common text editors. The format orders and buttons of the environment are familiar to the users of text editors.

The following functions are available:

  • Cutting, copying, pasting and moving texts, using Windows Clipboard
  • Bold, Italic and Underlined text
  • Alignment of text to the left, centre and right
  • Script styles predefined in the template for formatting the standard text types (titles, paragraphs)
  • Common fonts
  • Modification of font size
  • Modification of font colour
  • Addition of pictures
  • Addition of links and files
  • Addition of page anchors
  • Addition of lists
  • Addition, shaping and modification of tables
  • Optimisation of the HTML-format of pasted text and check of HTML errors

HTML Source Code Editor

In addition to working in the WYSIWYG-regime, it is possible to use the  HTML source code editor.

The HTML source code editor provides the administrator with an opportunity to use  JavaScript, Java and Flash solutions and other non-HTML formats on the homepage, for example, audio or video. Thus, WebWhistler does not limit implementation of the most complex ideas.

Windows Clipboard Functions

It is natural that often, ready-made information and information saved in files is used on web pages (texts, tables). Upon using the WebWhistler software, you do not have to enter the previously prepared texts again. WebWhistler supports Windows Clipboard and the related functions (cut, copy, paste).

Copying from the text editor, table calculation or accounting programs while preserving the general design is usual for users of WebWhistler, making the work process faster and more convenient for the administrator.

Sheduler

Usage of sheduler makes possible time-based publishing and/or suspension of homepage structures, sub-pages and modules (different parts of a sub-page).

HTML-code Error Correction and Optimisation

Upon copying HTML-format texts from other web pages or programs, there is a danger that the errors of others are copied as well. Therefore, automatic optimisation of the HTML-code is performed upon copying, which eliminates the possibility that non-standard  HTML-code gets into the environment administered using WebWhistler. Code optimisation also removes the unnecessary HTML-marking added by the programs of the MS Office packet, which is invisible in the Internet.

In addition to avoiding mistakes, this helps to reduce the load on Internet connections as well as the computer of the visitor and makes opening pages faster.

Folder Tree Familiar from Windows Exploring

The folder tree familiar from the Windows file administration system Windows Exploring displays the structure of homepages graphically. The folder tree enables access to all sub-pages used in the environment as well as resources that are hidden from the usual visitors, for example formats of the opinion polls or items in the recycle bin. By moving the elements of the folder tree, the link structure of the homepage is changed as well, providing good visual overview of the current link structure.

A Structure Rich In Opportunities And Unlimited In Terms Of Programs

The structure of the homepage (the location of sub-pages in relation to each other) is not limited by the program. The user can use as many sub-pages as necessary and it is possible to divide the sub-pages to different menu structures and levels.

It is important that sub-pages created earlier can be freely displaced in the folder structure later.

The following operations can be performed in the folder tree:

  • Add and delete sub-pages
  • Cut, copy and paste sub-pages
  • Delete sub-pages and restore the pages deleted earlier and stored in the Recycle Bin
  • Create references to the same content file in different branches of the folder tree
  • Set the parameters connected to sub-pages
  • Modify the order and subordination of sub-pages in all directions and at all levels
  • Open and close branches of the menu tree (provides an overview of the currently necessary menu structure)

Flexibility of Structure

The structure of the homepage can contain different types of links and pages.

In addition to creating a regular sub-page, it is, for example, possible to:

  • temporarily suspend viewing of a sub-page
  • show sub-pages only to previously authorised visitors (intranet/extranet)
  • compile the content of a sub-page from several different content files, i.e. modules
  • in the links structure, use links leading outside the environment of the homepage
  • direct the user to another part of the menu structure or another Internet address
  • prohibit showing links to subordinate pages

Upon display of the navigation elements, it is possible to use images as links in addition to text and open a page from inside the text at some important title upon clicking on that.

If the design of homepage requires usage of link images containing text (in any TrueType font), such images will be created automatically.

In the course of all these operations, even the smallest details of the structure can be built just as it is necessary for the owner of the homepage.

Using Cross-Linking

WebWhistler enables using the same content file at the same time in different subdivisions of the structure. We call this possibility - using different branches of the menu to reach the same content - cross-linking.

Upon using cross-linking, it is possible to display in different templates the content opened under the links located in different parts of the structure and use the same content with different formats. WebWhistler contains a special device, which gives a fast and clear overview of the cross-linking performed.

The possibility of using cross-linking and using same content files on different templates  liberates the administrator from the limits of the two-dimensional world and opens the world of real hypertext.

Analysis Of Non-functional Links

Since on the basis of WebWhistler it is possible to build pages with very large structures and pages that change fast, the administrator can analyse operation of the links used in the content of the homepage. The analysis of non-operational links determines the links that do not operate and gives the texts of the links as well.

Template Administration

In the WebWhistler environment, more than one template can be used. Moreover, use of the templates in sub-pages, their number and design are entirely at the discretion of the administrator of the homepage.

Thus, the look of the homepage can be redesigned at any time and there is no need for additional time consumption in connection with using the designer-produced form base in the WebWhistler environment.

Administration Of Navigation Elements

In addition to the content and templates, WebWhistler enables administration of the rules of design of the navigation elements, i.e. menu structures necessary in the structure.

Several most important types of menu structure have been pre-defined for users of WebWhistler, upon modification of which one can create a personal menu structure. Provided that modifying the pre-defined menu structures does not bring the desired results, administrators that know the HTML-language can build up a unique menu structure using the menu-defining device.

In every language version of the homepage the administrator can use one or several menu structures. Thus, WebWhistler enables administration of a simple page as well as a large portal.

Several Administrators

In the WebWhistler environment, several administrators can operate at the same time. Thus, it is not only one person who has to update the homepage, but different employees can take care of updating information on different fields. So updating homepages can be divided into suitable work assignments that will be completed by people that know the particular fields the best (for example, salespeople, secretaries, etc.).

Additional administrator accounts can be created in the course of work, the information related to the existing accounts can be modified and administrators deleted.

Different Administration Privileges

Two types of administrators are used in the WebWhistler environment: root administrators and common administrators. The root administrator can, in addition to other administering operations, establish detailed rights of common administrators.

The root administrator can create new administrator accounts, adjust the rights of common administrators and if necessary, delete them.

The rights of common administrators can be limited to specific pages as well as folder branches. Upon granting rights, root administrator can choose between four different levels of administration.

Administration Log

To coordinate the work of several administrators, it is possible to monitor the operations performed by them from the log operating in real time.

In addition to operating in real time, the contents of the log are preserved for future use and it is possible to leave comments to administrators in the log.

Administation Environment That Can Be Operated In Different Languages

WebWhistler administration environment is displayed to the administrator in the selected language. If the environment does not support the requested language, we add the necessary language support to the environment free of charge.

Intranet and Extranet

WebWhistler enables application of Intranet/Extranet environments. The Intranet and Extranet are parts (they can be structures, sub-pages, files, images and even modules of public sub-pages) of the homepage to which access is limited and which are displayed only to previously authorised users.

In order to determine the rights to access the Intranet or Extranet, an unlimited number of users can be formed, while each group can be given different access rights.

The administrator can create, modify and delete Intranet/Extranet environments, user groups and users. Thus, it is possible to take the corporate exchange of information to a large extent to the Internet and use the homepage better than before to support the business or to present personalised information to the users.

Homepage Site Map

Homepages administered using WebWhistler can have an automatically updated site map added.

If the homepage becomes voluminous and complex, it is often easier to reach the desired materials by using the linked site map of the home page. The site map is definitely of help to frequent users of the homepage who know what is offered on the homepage and wish to reach the more detailed information without making unnecessary stops in between.

Full Text Search Engine (Searchrobot)

In the output of the homepages administered using WebWhistler it is possible to use a full text search engine.

Upon usage of the search engine, the user is displayed the links to the texts where the words searched for were found. The results of the search are indicated on the basis of the update times and places.

Opinion Polls (Gallups)

WebWhistler enables administration surveys to be carried out in the form of an opinion poll. One can create a new opinion poll, activate an old opinion poll and change the settings of the opinion polls. The opinion poll is conducted at the same time in different language versions, but in different languages.

The statistics of the results of the opinion polls can be viewed on a chronological basis.

Comments Environment Or Guestbook

It is possible to add a commentary environment or a guestbook to the sub-pages administered using WebWhistler. A separate commentary environment can be created on every page of an environment, if necessary.

The commentary environment can be administered using WebWhistler and it is possible to edit or remove the inappropriate entries. Adding a commentary environment to homepage is becoming an increasingly popular method for receiving feedback from the users.

Forum or FAQ Environment

It is possible to add a forum or a Frequently Asked Questions environment to the sub-pages of a homepage administered using WebWhistler. A separate forum can be created on every page of an environment, if necessary.

The forum environment can be administered using WebWhistler and it is possible to edit or remove the inappropriate entries. Unlike in the commentary environment, in the forum environment visitors can create discussions by topics and reply to each other s comments - this provides better opportunities for discussing the topics compared to a simple commentary environment.

Unlike in the forum environment, in the FAQ environment the administrator can reply to the questions raised by the visitors of the homepage. This way the visitors can be sure that the answer to their question is the official position of the company to whom the homepage belongs.

Web-based Upload of Pictures and Files

Upon modification of the content of the homepage, it is obviously necessary to add pictures and links to files too. WebWhistler enables to easily load the files to the server and add a link or a picture to the file.

Upon modification of the homepage, the administrator does not need to open an FTP-program for loading the files. It can be performed directly through the dialogue opened in the WYSIWYG editor’s window.

Administration of Pictures and Files

To administer the files loaded in the server, WebWhistler program has a separate user interface. In the file administration environment, it is possible to sort files by their type, time of loading to the server and name. The rights to access the files can be granted on the same basis as those of the Intranet/Extranet.

The same administration interface is used to add pictures and links to the homepage.

Administrator can also view on which sub-pages the files have been used. In order to avoid creating non-functional links, the respective analysis shall always be performed before the file is deleted from the server.

Administration of Databases

WebWhistler can be used for web-based administration of other database solutions. This way we have created an additional module in the WebWhistler environment in the form of administration interfaces of an e-store and product catalogues.

Since the applications of such additional solutions are different for different customers, contact our sales department if you are interested so that we could suggest the best possible solution considering your particular needs.

Notification of Visitors About Modifications

WebWhistler capabilities also include a mechanism that notifies the visitors of the homepage about substantial modifications.

The most visible part of this possibility is the addition of a respective note to the link leading to the updated sub-page. The administrator can determine the note of an updated page in the same way as the links.

In addition, WebWhistler can send automatic e-mails to the circle of persons or a newsgroup interested in the updates of the homepage.

Customer Support

WebWhistler software is accompanied by customer support on the basis of telephone and e-mail. In addition to resolution of problems, we can give you new ideas and advice on how to build up your homepage!
